Ionizer Applications
Ionizers neutralize static charges when isolated conductors have no reasonable path to ground. Common scenarios usually include insulative plastics, automated assembly lines, or moving personnel who cannot use grounding straps, and/or ESD control flooring and footwear. Ionization is not a replacement for proper grounding methods but instead used sparingly when a grounded connection is not possible. Beyond static sensitive devices, ionizers also reduce particle cling and attraction by neutralizing charged surfaces.
Simco-ION: Static Control Solutions & Ionizers
Simco-ION is the world’s largest manufacturer of static control components and systems. Previously, we’ve outlined how Simco-ION systems reduce static discharge events during device production and minimize late-stage defects caused by particulate burdens. Particle contamination and debris removal are often a critical concern for our customers in device and circuit board manufacturing.
The Simco-ION MinIon2 provides a space-saving design with fast discharge and stable operation during electronics assembly and automated tool applications. The IQ Power Neutralizing System and ionizers support real-time monitoring systems and sensors for a trackable reduction in scrap rates and rework costs.
Simco-ION’s Guardian CR2000 Cleanroom-rated Overhead Ionizing Blower is designed specifically for use in cleanroom applications. The Guardian CR2000 features a patented circuit that results in balanced delivery of positive and negative ions, which ensures that the unit will maintain an ion balance of 0 ±5V. Balance stability is further enhanced by use of Simco-ION’s unique “ion shields” at the fan outputs to reduce parasitic ion loss.

SCS ESD Ionizers: Performance & Selection
SCS ionizers reduce device vulnerabilities to electrostatic fields or charged particles. Benchtop ionization systems extend the air flow rate and provide dedicated area coverage. Each benchtop system features a blower tailored for low, medium, and high flow rates.
Handheld ionizers provide faster response times (<1 second) and precise targeting for operator involved processes. Need help with your SCS ionizer selection? View the Ionizer Selection Chart.
Many PAC customers shop our SCS ionizers online, others require phone support or onsite expertise when considering ESD-safe assembly and manufacturing systems.
Static Management Programs (SMP)
During fast-moving assembly processes, excessive debris and particulates pose many problems to the final quality, adhesion properties, and overall accuracy of machines and parts. Likewise, miniscule electrical charges are known killers for micro and nano-sized components.
Smaller part sizes increase both the complexity and sensitivity of every touch point. While nearly every manufacturer understands that particles and static charges drive product losses, few can accurately estimate revenue losses and product failure rates.
Smarter technology is now allowing better traceability and tracking of defects and losses associated with not only an operation as a whole, but down to a particular contaminant, machine, operator, or process. We provide end-to-end product solutions and on-site services when known or unknown contamination and ESD events become problematic.
Here’s how our Static Management Control Programs help shift the tides towards cleaner outcomes, better shelf life, and more consistent throughput.
