Social Distancing Requires Social Awareness

First, the momentum of global pandemics are not just immunological, but also affect the psyche of both customers and employees. In order to serve customers and protect our employees, its important to create clear direction and expectations when customers visit your business. Employees at ease put customers at ease and vice versa.

  • Create physical space, barriers, and air gaps between nearby individuals
  • Deploying signage or floor markings which remind customers to keep ample space between other customers and employees
  • Reduce touch points of outside actors and therefore limit the spread of germs beyond controlled areas
  • Reduce internal co-mingling of workstations and work areas where employees could spread the virus or cross contaminate various surfaces, objects, equipment, or hygiene areas.

Here are a few solutions to help you create clear expectations for social distance, maintain physical barriers, and encourage best practices to avoid the spread of COVID related disease and illnesses.

How to Create Physical Distance Between Customers, Employees, and Workstations

There are many factors when preventing the spread of opportunistic pathogens, but the most obvious that come to mind:

  1. Double down on hand washing signage and encourage proper technique with appropriate scrub and rinse time
  2. Use floor signage to create clear reminders of distance expected between customers.
  3. Increase the density of hygiene stations and sinks. Employees will not only have increased awareness but also will have alternative areas if other sinks or bathrooms are currently occupied. By expanding the availability of hygiene agrees, businesses can cut down on bottlenecks, improve compliance, reduce cohabited spaces with customers, and drive
  4. Order custom signage for social distancing and visual safety referencing. Custom printing available for floor signs and labels.
  5. DuraStripe provides affordable, ready-to-ship signage and floor markings for distance and hygiene reminders.

Workstation Dividers and View Panels

Use physical Plexiglas shielding at point of purchase areas where customers must interface with employees. Shielding will prevent the direct invasion of moisture droplets transferring large amounts of virus to nearby people.

Solid Workstation Dividers

Solid panel workstation dividers are an economical and simple option for preventing direct transfer of respiratory droplets from coughs or sneezes.

Ceiling
Mounted

Solid panels are easily attached with zip ties or clamps for a safer and contained workspace.

Workstation Window Divdiers

View through panels are ideal when observation or non-verbal communication is needed between two parallel workstations in close proximity.

Wide
Pass Through

Viewing panels are ESD safe and compatible with cleaning agents such as isopropyl alcohol.

Hanging Curtain Dividers

Soft curtain hangers create easily passable dividers between work areas. Curtains are non-intrusive and reduce transmissible airborne droplets.

Tall
Pass Through

Included hanging hardware makes these simple and easy to install with minimal tools and a helping hand.

  1. As you mentioned, using sneeze shields can help promote healthy social distancing in the market place, and in the office. Is this something that is also being considered as it comes time to resume school? I would be interested to see how this would be implemented in daily use for schools.

  2. Hi Shaylee,

Yes, sneeze shields and workstation dividers are considerable in all communal working spaces that cannot achieve social distancing, or do not have wall dividers, ect. They could very easily be attached to desks with just minimal hardware. Some schools are concerned about students not wearing masks properly: touching face, not covering nose, not keeping distance, ect. Schools are a great example of places where environmental controls could reduce some conditions that lead to communal spread. IF sneeze shields were attached to the front of each desk, this would reduce droplet spread when students are engaging with teachers or speaking during class. That also means that each child would have a sneeze shield between the person at the desk in front of them and behind them. Granted, these sneeze shields would also require disinfection after each session.
