Finding the best safety glasses for shooters.

These ANSI Z87.1 Approved Safety Glasses Withstand A 12- Gauge Shotgun Blast

Taking Safety Glasses Beyond ANSI Z87.1 Standards

ANSI Z.871 approved safety glasses provide essential protection for the eyes during manufacturing, assembly, and everyday movement in work zones. Manufacturing floors require constant oversight for safety hazards such as low or high-velocity impact, non-ionizing radiation, and liquid splash exposure. Procedural protocol for personal eye and face protection devices is defined under ANSI/ISEA Z87.1. These standards were also adopted for by OSHA approved safety glass parameter.

ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015 prescribes the design, performance specifications, and marking of safety eye and face products, including millions of safety goggles, spectacles, faceshields, and welding helmets, worn by workers in thousands of manufacturing and processing facilities, university and research laboratories, and other occupational settings.

Bullhead May Provide The Best Safety Glasses for Protection Against High-Velocity Projectiles

In the last frame of the video, you’ll see the pellets from the blast embedded in the lenses of the glasses, demonstrating impressive shatter and impact resistance.  When a high-velocity object makes contact with normal glass eyewear or sunglasses, the lenses shatter and the pieces accelerate toward the eye.  As the video above demonstrates, only the bullhead glasses with impact resistance 6x greater than the spec of ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 provide adequate protection. Importantly, no one should attempt to recreate this test.

While projectiles traveling at these speeds are rare, over the longest timeline these events do occur in manufacturing, tool aided assembly and hazardous area zones. However rare in standard work zones, a 0.15 caliber, 5.85-grain cylindrical projectile made of cold rolled, annealed steel, traveling at 660 feet per second is expected when the eyewear is needed for ballistics testing, firearm use, or for military safety glass standards.

Where to Find OSHA and ANSI Z781 Saftey Glasses

The reason Production Automation (that’s us) carries Z871 safety glasses from Bullhead and Pyramex in our web store is because the product lines are durable, affordable, and diverse. Anti-reflective, anti-fog, and scratch resistant safety glasses find favor in almost any manufacturing process. Because demand for effective and fashionable safety glasses continues to grow, different frame and lens styles ensure choices and fit for both men and women.
